Premium Ethiopian Guji Roasted Coffee – Grade 1 (12 oz)
Roasted · 12 oz
Grade 1 is the highest quality classification in Ethiopian coffee grading. Reserved for lots with zero defects and exceptional cup consistency, it is the standard every serious importer aims for. It is the only grade Buna Utopia carries. This coffee comes from the Guji Zone in Ethiopia's Oromia Region, one of the country's most celebrated specialty origins. Sitting between 1,800 and 2,200 metres above sea level, Guji produces beans of remarkable density and complexity. The altitude, volcanic soil, and distinct wet and dry seasons create growing conditions that express themselves clearly in the cup — fruit-forward, floral, and bright in a way that few origins can match. We source directly from smallholder farmers in the Guji Zone, handling export from Ethiopia and import into the US ourselves. No brokers, no middlemen. The premium price reflects the quality of the beans, the directness of the sourcing relationship, and the care taken at every step between the farm and your cup. Flavor Notes: Blackberry, Jasmine, Lemon Zest, Stone Fruit, Sparkling Acidity Origin: Guji Zone, Oromia Region, Ethiopia Grade: Grade 1 Premium, zero defects Net Weight: 12 oz (340g) Sourcing: Direct trade from Ethiopian smallholder farms
Roaster's Notes
"Whole-bean Yirgacheffe rewards patience. Grind just before brewing and the full aromatic complexity — blueberry, jasmine, and a zest that's almost bergamot — fills the room before the first drop lands."

Brewing Guide
Brew This Bean Right
Yirgacheffe's delicate florals are best expressed through filter methods. The lighter the roast, the higher the floral intensity. Avoid over-extraction.
Pour-Over (Chemex)
30g · 500ml · 90°C · 4-min brew. The florals open like a perfume. Best method for this bean.
Aeropress (Inverted)
15g · 200ml · 88°C · 1.5 min. Bright, clean, jasmine-forward with a lemon finish.
Cold Brew
60g coarse · 500ml cold water · 18h in fridge. Yirgacheffe cold brew is ethereal — sweet, floral, almost tea-like.
Traditional Buna
Roast green beans over charcoal, grind in a mukecha, brew in a jebena. The ceremony is the ritual.
Origin
The Gedeo Highlands
Yirgacheffe sits inside the larger Gedeo Zone in Ethiopia's southern highlands, at elevations between 1,900 and 2,400 metres. It is considered the birthplace of Arabica coffee. The cool mist, shade trees, and rich forest soil create a microclimate that produces the most aromatic coffee on the planet. Small-holder farmers here have been growing coffee for over a thousand years.
