Ethiopia is where coffee was born and we bring it to you the way it was meant to be. Grown by small farmers in Yirgacheffe, Sidamo, Guji, and Harrar shipped without shortcuts, and roasted with intention.
Our Standard
Grade 1 is the highest quality classification in Ethiopian coffee grading. Reserved for lots with zero defects and exceptional cup consistency, it is the standard every serious importer aims for. Our retail coffees are Grade 1. If you are sourcing at scale and need something different, let's talk..

Growing up in Ethiopia, Buna wasn't just coffee it was how you started the morning, how you welcomed a guest, how you marked the end of a long day. We started Buna Utopia because that coffee deserves to be known, not just consumed.
We handle everything ourselves buying from farmers in Yirgacheffe, Sidamo, Guji and Harrar exporting from Ethiopia, and importing to Detroit Michigan. Your coffee is shipped from Detroit no brokers! No blending! Just the coffee, exactly as it left the farm.
Direct Sourcing
We buy directly from the farmers who grow it. They know us by name. That's how we keep it honest.
Full Traceability
You can trace your bag back to the region and the farmers who picked it. That's not a promise it's just how we work.
Fair Prices
Farmers get paid what their work is worth. Good coffee doesn't happen any other way.

Our process

Farm Selection
We travel to Ethiopia and handpick partner farms in Yirgacheffe, Sidama, Guji, and Harrar — evaluating soil, altitude, and farmer practices before any commitment.

Harvest & Processing
Coffee is selectively hand-harvested at peak ripeness. Lots are processed using natural, washed, honey, or anaerobic methods to develop distinct flavor profiles.

Direct Export
As a licensed Ethiopian exporter, we oversee milling, grading, and export — ensuring quality is locked in before the coffee leaves the country.

US Import & Distribution
From Detroit, we import and distribute to roasters and direct consumers — transparent pricing, traceable lots, no middlemen.
Our Founder
I grew up drinking coffee roasted over charcoal, prepared slowly with incense, shared with neighbors. That experience that ritual is what I want every person who opens a bag of Buna Utopia to feel, and the reason I went back to Ethiopia to build this.
