Frequently Asked Questions

Our coffee
Where does your coffee come from?
Directly from small family farms in Yirgacheffe, Sidamo and Guji, Ethiopia. We buy directly, with no brokers or middlemen, and handle export from Ethiopia and import into the US ourselves from Detroit, Michigan. How our direct trade works.
What grade is your coffee?
Every coffee we sell is Grade 1, Ethiopia's highest export grade. What Grade 1 means.
Is your coffee organic or fair trade certified?
Our coffee is grown using traditional, natural farming methods without synthetic pesticides. We are not currently certified organic. We buy directly from farmers at prices well above market rate, ensuring fair compensation without certification overhead.
Which region should I choose?
Yirgacheffe is floral and citrusy, Guji is intensely fruity, and Sidamo is sweet and full-bodied. Compare Ethiopian coffee regions.
Roasted coffee
Is the coffee fresh?
Yes. We roast to order in small batches and ship from Detroit within 48 hours of your order, so your coffee never sits in a warehouse for months.
Can I get whole beans or ground?
Both. Every roasted coffee comes in whole bean and ground options. Ground coffee is ground fresh for your order. Whole beans stay fresh longer: grind just before brewing.
What size bags do you sell?
Retail coffee comes in 12 oz (349 g) bags. For larger quantities, see wholesale.
How should I store my coffee?
Store roasted coffee in an airtight container at room temperature, away from sunlight and heat. Do not refrigerate or freeze roasted coffee. Whole beans taste best within about 4 weeks of roasting.
Green coffee
What are green or unroasted beans?
Green beans are raw, unroasted coffee for home and commercial roasters. Stored cool and dry, they keep their quality for up to 18 months, so you can roast on your own schedule. Shop Ethiopian green coffee beans.
How do I roast green coffee at home?
You can use a home drum roaster, a cast-iron skillet or a popcorn popper. Each green coffee product page includes step-by-step roasting instructions.
Shipping and returns
How long does shipping take?
Orders ship from Detroit, Michigan within 1 to 2 business days. Standard delivery is 3 to 5 business days within the US, with tracking emailed when your order ships. Shipping is free on orders over $50.
What if I don't like the coffee?
We stand behind every bag. If you are not satisfied, contact us and we will make it right with a refund or replacement. See Shipping and Returns for details.
